Jerry Glynn is a director in the State and Local Tax practice. He has provided tax compliance and consulting services to businesses for over 35 years. His experiences span across multiple industries, including manufacturing, computer technology, life sciences, energy, food and beverage, and various service industries. During his more recent years, Jerry has been focused almost exclusively on providing sales and use tax consulting services to his clients, including nexus analysis, taxability studies, audit defense and appeals, tax process and procedure reviews, technology implementations, transaction and issue analyses, buy/sell due diligence, and remediation of tax exposures.
Before "coming back" to Andersen, Jerry was a member of the SALT teams at some large firms, including Arthur Andersen. At his most recent firm, Jerry was a managing director providing multi-state SALT services to his clients. He was also the firm'ss subject matter expert for Pennsylvania sales and use tax matters.
Services provided on recent engagements include:
- Negotiated a compromise settlement for a multi-million-dollar Pennsylvania sales tax assessment, saving his client a significant sum of tax, penalty, and interest.
- Advised a financial services client regarding the application of sales tax to their service offerings, which involved a process that integrated data processing and professional services.
- Managed multiple sales tax audits and appeals, working closely with his clients to reach fair and accurate conclusions.
- Oversaw and coordinated the provision of Indirect Tax services to outsource client engagements, leveraging the firm'ss Indirect Tax resources locally and across the country to ensure clients needs and tax obligations were met.
- Secured voluntary disclosure agreements in twenty-plus states to remediate prior-period sales tax exposures.
- Participated in multiple tax due diligence reviews, acting as the sales and use tax SME.
- Performed comprehensive sales and use tax diagnostic reviews that included nexus analysis, taxability determinations, process improvement implementations, exposure analysis, and remediation.
